To avoid accidents, beagle puppy training with crates is important
. It gives your beagle puppy to be secure and safe in his own place. Crates are den for dogs, a place where they feel at home. It can be extremely helpful when:
1. Your beagle is left alone in the home for more than 5 hours
2. Training him with potties
3. Feeding him without any distraction
However it has some disadvantages like:
1. It separates your beagle puppy from you even when you're at home
2. It doesn't teach leadership
3. It can't teach him how to behave in all other rooms of the house.
A crate is important to prevent different problems but it shouldn't be used forever. So while buying, select average size crate having enough room to move comfortably and never enclose your puppy in it for more than 3 hours because he cannot wait that much time to eliminate.
How crate training works
The concept of this has been evolved on the basis of "denning instinct". It explains that when mother gives birth to her puppies in a den, she keeps it clean until they are old enough to eliminate outside the den. The mother teaches that it's not good to eliminate in the sleeping place and the same instinct works in the crate training.
When you bring your beagle puppy for the first time in your home, put him on the crate as a reward. Do this by giving treat whenever he's in the crate and behave positively while dealing with him. As soon as he feels comfortable with it, beagle puppy training will be easy for you. But don't confine him to the crate for longer time and it may grow unusual behaviors in him.
As your beagle puppy will consider crate as his den, he will always try to keep it as clean as possible. Therefore whenever he wants to relieve, he will try to come out of it or whine from there. This will help you in two ways. First- such accidents are prevented and second you can make the routine of his potty timings.
