Before starting my article I will like to say a few words about health.
"Every human being is the author of his own health or disease."
"He, who has health, has hope. And he, who has hope, has everything."
"It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver."
esus' Last Words
Luke 23:46 says " And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said this he gave up the ghost".
This passage is very simple and straight forward. It tells us that Jesus committed His spirit into His father's hands before he died. But that's not all there is to it. During his ministry, he healed the sick, made the lame whole, the blind see, the deaf hear and the dead rise again. With all these acts, one thing is constant; he spoke. For every miracle he performed, he spoke it into existence.
Mark 5:41-42 says; "And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked. "
Mark 4:39 says: "And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."
All Christ had to do was speak and things were done. But back to the original scripture the amplified says "And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit! And with these words, He expired."
He expired after he said those words, which means that those were the very last words he uttered. So if he spoke and things came to pass, how come he did not save himself? All he had to do was say, I will not die today or I bear this cross no longer. That would have spared his life and gave the spectators the proof they were looking for that he was the Messiah. But he didn't do that. He could have walked away and let the people fall and worship him until he died a natural death. But where would that leave us?
Psalm 150:6 says Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. If he had spared his life, we would have still been a position to praise him, but we would not be in line for everlasting life. Our only chance of making it to heaven was for Christ to die. Not naturally, but of his own volition.
John 10:18 says " no man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself." Think about it, what mortal man could possibly have the power to kill Christ. He HAD to lay down his life in order to die on that cross. But he did it with a purpose. He volunteered his life for all of us. So those last words "into thy hands I commend my spirit" should mean much more to us than just a final saying. His heart and mind were on us, and our salvation, from the start of his ministry even to his last breath. That's deep!!!
