Become Fully Focused on Maximizing Your Sports Workouts
If you want to improve your sports workouts, then you need to be fully committed to your training and preparation. If you do not make a full commitment to your sport, you will only reach average results. Also, you will be setting yourself up for a mental let down because your skills will not improve.
Making a full commitment to your sport and its preparation is the only way to be a great athlete and meet higher goals. You need a vision that consumes your thoughts every day. Your sport needs to be the number one thing in your mind. If you do not have this focus, you will stay at an average level. A committed and totally focused athlete turns into a great athlete.
This may mean no girlfriend and no partying. This doesn't mean great athletes have no fun outside of their sport, or that they should let their academics slide. This simply means that your focus should be on getting enough sleep, eating well, your sports workouts, your practices, and balancing it all with a social life.
The truth is, you may have to reduce your social life to become the great athlete you want to be. By focusing on your sport now, you will have plenty of time to party and date later. If you are not ready for this level of commitment, you need to re-evaluate your priorities. Don't waste your time training for a sport if you are not fully committed.
I never dated a girl that did not understand that my training was number one in my life. I never vacationed if I was not certain there was a place to train and nutritious food to eat. I made my sport my first priority. I didn't get married until I was thirty, but I did reach my goal of making it into professional sports. I also made it into an NFL camp.
You need a vision of where you want to end up, and have that vision in the forefront of your mind. When I was in college, I would be walking to class and telling myself that I will run a 4.5 40 yard dash. Or I would tell myself that I would bench press 400 pounds. I continually told myself the numbers I wanted to see. I wanted, and needed, to get into the NFL.
All the best athletes I have worked with have this one-track mind. This is why I enjoy training so much and get along with these similarly minded athletes so well. I understand their thoughts and feelings and I like to be around motivated people that think like I do.
I wasn't a total bore in college. I did date, and I did go on vacation. But, truly, my training and sports workouts were always my first priority. Now that mentality is transferred to my coaching. I will not stop searching to find information my athletes need to succeed. Parents continue to bring their kids to me because they know I have a commitment to turning their kids into great athletes.
You may tell yourself you want to become a great athlete, but are you fully focused on this goal? You must take your sports workouts very seriously to succeed. You may need to change your diet or increase your weight lifting. You must commit yourself to doing whatever is necessary.
For one day, write down everything you do and the amount of time it takes you to complete each task. Now you can see where your priorities are, and decide what is more important. Do you need to watch an hour of TV in the evenings? Focus on saving your energy to improve your athleticism. This will be a wonderful habit to get into so you can maximize the time you spend on your sports workouts.
