Vet tech research is a challenging field and it will require additional efforts to get there. There will be a few steps that you'll have to go though completely. It shouldn't be a problem if you really want it.
You have to be a licensed vet tech in the first place. Getting a vet tech education is just around the corner or may even be acquired online. There re now a lot of vet tech school nation wide. They can be community colleges or universities.
Next is to get an internship. A normal vet tech program includes internship in their curriculum so it shouldn't be a problem. You can even volunteer in vet clinics to enrich your skills. You should really get as much experience as you can.
Upon graduation form the program licensing should be done. You can get a license by passing a state exam which will determine if you are capable of practicing your profession legally.
After all these steps and a couple of months or years of experience, you can now start looking for opportunities in getting into research. This is not going to be too difficult once you have your necessary credentials. And there are many employers looking for vet tech researchers out there.
This is going to be a
of work. There will still be a lot of animals but you'll be working with them to clarify and enhance animal's knowledge. It's a specialization worthy of all these steps!
