When the eggs are at the right stage of growth, the hormone hCG is given to the donor. This hormone stimulates the final maturation of the eggs. Approximately 34-36 hours later, the eggs are ready to be retrieved, which takes 30 minutes and is performed under short anesthesia to ensure the donors comfort.
