To become a professional to take up this huge responsibility, you need to undergo the technician program that ranges between one to four years depending on whether you intend to obtain the bachelors degree or the associate degree certificates. If you are already working in the healthcare centers, having experience handling the x-ray related stuffs, you can apply for the one-year express program. This is good for those who aim to enhance their knowledge or wish to get promoted. The bachelor level programs are good advancement for the administrative or supervisory positions.
Among the many programs available to become x-ray technicians, one of the most commonly pursued one is the two-year associate degree radiologic technologist course. However, this program should be followed subsequently by the certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). And to be qualified for this certification, you need to complete the prior program and pass all the examinations.
Apart from the typical programs, x-ray tech need to get the licensure approved by the government. For instance, the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that there are 40 states that required technicians to have licensure to get employed. Besides, there are 35 states that made the ARRT exam as one of the basic requirement for the licensure. Other than that, the certification makes it compulsory for students to undergo the 24 educational credits every two years to maintain their certification at an optimum level. Further advancements include training that specializes in the diagnostic imaging techniques such as the angiography and CT scanning.
The jobs of x-ray technicians are one potential career in the market where the percentage is expected to experience increment by 15 percent in the year 2016. Comparatively, the growth rate is much higher than average growth rate of other jobs. In addition to the increase in outpatient cases, the employment in the radiology technicians outside healthcare centers is also expected to increase to feed the demand. Any technicians with the experience in imaging techniques will definitely have advantage in the field.
