Personal Development

To become an expert, we should strive for excellence. Personal Development is foundational to this. We should be reading at least 10 pages a day of a good book. Also, use you car or exercise time to listen to positive speakers. I know without a doubt that much of my success has come from this area. I am not talking about sales or product knowledge; I mean books that will put you in the right mindset. Jim Rohn has a great cd.; "Five Major pieces of the Life Puzzle," that starts with building on our philosophy of life. My top recommendations are: The Bible, How to Win Friends and Influence People, Power of Positive Thinking, Think and Grow Rich, Eat that Frog, Endless Referrals, and anything by John Maxwell.

Industry & Sales Knowledge

We need to study whatever our field is. Some industries are changing very rapidly. The good news is we live in the information age and have multiple sources (magazines, trade newsletters, Ezines, blogs and other online resources) to stay informed. Whether we like it or not, whether we think it or not, we are all in sales. We should be learning and practicing our sales skills daily. There are many great authors in this area. Some of my favorite sales authors are Tom Hopkins, Zig Ziglar, and Jeffrey Gitomer.

Dream Team of Experts

For any business and life in general, we need the help of others. One aspect is time; we have a fixed amount of time each day and we simply need help to accomplish all we want to. Each of us has unique gifts and talents. We should work to improve our strong areas and focus on the areas that are most critical to our business. For the areas that are our weaknesses, we should seek out experts to help with these. One of the best parts of our QBS group is that its members are experts and willing to help each other. Another source of experts I personally use are found through my Pre-Paid Legal membership. I have access to a team of attorneys. Included with my Home Based Business Plan is GosmallBiZ.com. I have various Small Business Resources with this. Additional, I have access to Business Consultants to ask any question about any area of Business. By utilizing the access to these experts I am also saving time.

Public Speaking

I have incorporated this into my business. Through public speaking we can be known as experts. The process of public speaking has helped me to know my subjects more thoroughly. Besides the obvious benefit of speaking as a marketing tool, it is a great way to gain more confidence in talking to people. Like anything else, just "do it" and practice; it gets easier each time. I have learned much about Public Speaking from being a member of Toastmasters.
