It's the sort of thing that can happen to anyone. Perhaps you've finally had it with rush hour traffic. Maybe you or your spouse just lost a job. Maybe you'd just like to someday work at home and only go to work because you love your job. Maybe you want to start a family but don't feel you can downsize to one income. Maybe... Well, you get the idea. It happens in that mental space where you're thinking about how you can better your life, believing there's got to be other options besides the ones you've been considering.
You start thinking about becoming an Internet marketer. Is it really possible--for you? The journey begins, and it will change your life.

Before you make your first consistent sales, somewhere during the hours of training, somehow in between finally understanding search engine optimization and still unclear about the varying degrees of quality backlinks, sometime during the building and promoting of your first honest to goodness campaign, the change begins and you know you are really truly becoming an Internet marketer. The first sign of change is in your own mind.
It's a change of mindset more than anything. Externally your life is still the same, but inside you have changed. Unmistakeably. Irreversibly.
You see, we tend to think of the Internet as a place to gain information and pass the time. Most people use the Internet for entertainment and convenience. And then when you initially research becoming an Internet marketer you're treated to beautiful pictures of a life of leisure on the beach if you just purchase and have faith in their great opportunity, ebook or software. You start getting this picture in your mind of momentarily interrupting your sunbathing to slowly open your laptop and type in a few phrases--just enough to make a couple grand so that you can go back to sipping your margarita and reading your magazine, and maybe take a swim in the pristine water, with financial peace of mind.
As long as we're thinking about the beach, let's talk about the beach and the people who spend time at the beach. These are the people in their swim suits, lying on towels under big umbrellas or cabanas, lounging in the water with some inflatable form of relaxation, building sandcastles and splashing with their children. In short, the people who are there to have a good time.
Then there are the lifeguards. They are the ones sitting in the high chairs intently watching everyone from one side of the swimming area to the other. You might also see them patrolling the beach by walking along the shore or trolling along in boats just beyond the swimming area. They are looking for any signs of trouble and are ready to jump in and rescue a swimmer from a fun afternoon ending in tragedy. They are the ones who came to work.
They're all at the beach, but a few--the lifeguards--are there to work, and their approach and experience of the beach is entirely different from all the people who came to have a good time.
And that's how it is with people using the Internet. Most are there to have a good time, to make their life more convenient, to connect with their friends, to look up a topic of interest. The Internet marketers are there to work. They are there to make money. They don't just visit websites; they build them. They don't just write random copy; they carefully optimize everything they write for strategically chosen and researched keywords.
Soon that will be you. And just like that, as you are becoming an Internet marketer, you will know that's you. You will have made that important mental shift. With that shift comes pride. You are in a real occupation, and you understand that. Internet marketing isn't just Internet surfing that happens to pay money. It's a real job with real skills to learn, real techniques and even some scientific rigor (I've found fellow Internet marketers have set up some of the best controlled experiments to rival anything going on in a physical laboratory!). With that shift comes confidence. Since it's a real professional occupation with real skills, there are predictable outcomes. If you learn the skills and follow the steps, you will succeed in making money.
In becoming an Internet marketer you are becoming a highly skilled professional just like the lifeguard on the beach. Understanding and internalizing this reality will make all the difference to your career.
