Have a credit card or a house or a car loan? Are you sure you are not paying for something more than the loan costs? Maybe you are maybe you aren't. If you fill the category of you are' then am sure that you are smart enough to know all the activities that goes on on your loan but chances are that you don't know whether they are actually benefitting you for the money that you pay towards it. If you fill the category of you aren't' it is either a case of ignorance or just plainly being miss-sold a product that you did not opt for. Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) is one such plan that has been a part of many loans and credit card services for over 15 years now. It is not until lately, i.e. on May 2009, the government and the FSA have together announced a ban on this product that is being sold in association with the respective loans on account of it proving to bring in incredible amount of losses for the consumers for the same.

Insurance companies have been found to earn a whole lot from these PPI payments alone let alone from other charges that apply to the loans. Most companies have included PPI as a part of the loan without the customer's consent in the form of single premium loans, has eventually been banned as well. About 20 million PPI plans are still effective in the UK market and this earns a whooping 5 million towards the loan lending companies involved with these PPI plans. Not only is this plan not productive for most of the customers but also it is ripping the innocent people off a major chunk of their hard-earned money. The people who are generally eligible to the PPI claims are ones who might not require a payment protection program of any sort either ways. While on the other hand people who are self-employed or retired and those who have a pre-existing medical condition are not liable for policy benefits.

PPI reclaim can be done if you were:

- Unemployed or self employed or retired at the time of sale of the PPI plan.

- Having a pre-existing medical condition and the policy would not be applicable to you yet you were asked to buy it

- Sold a single premium policy' and unable to cancel the PPI or get a full refund

- Not explained the entire cost of the PPI at the time of sale

- Told that the PPI was compulsory

- Not told about other significant terms of the policy

- Older than the age limit for your policy

- Sold the PPI by a firm that has already been fined for the same

- Not asked whether you already owned other insurance cover policies

- Not told that if your loan term was much longer than PPI term you would not be eligible for the cost cover for the rest of the loan term

- Not aware of the PPI on your loan because of an opt out' option in the application for the loan.
