Before You Hire an Online Based Canadian Personal Growth Coach - Internet Predators 101

The other day, a member of our Think Tank and I were discussing the challenges with identity theft and predators online in social networks preying upon our children. When I read the statistics I was shocked, as we have a real problem indeed.

Now it turns out that one way these sexual predators zero in on their targets is they get onto Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter and chat up young teenagers, and talk about their problems, issues with self esteem and then offer to help them free themselves from issues, stress, and the challenges of life.

It's hard at times to figure out who is genuine and who is a predator, as there are some really great coaches who operate out of their home based businesses, are trained psychologists, and quite knowledgeable when it comes to the problems of teenage adolescence. There are a few clues or give-aways that can assist you or help you raise red flags.

For instance, if an online coach or mentor does not use their real name, but only a first name and an initial, then there is no way to check their credentials, or even to check online to see if they are a sexual predator or on a sex crimes list.

Do You Know Who Is Talking to Your Teen Age Son or Daughter Online?

Most parents assume that when kids are online at social networks that they are talking to their friends. But what if they are talking to adults, who end up giving them advice on relationships or putting ideas into their heads that you'd rather they didn't. If they see this person as an authority figure, coach, or mentor, this individual might become your online replacement, and as a parent you should be alarmed.

For instance, what happens when there is a sexual predators in Canada who is preying on US teens, or US predators, cloaked as coaching gurus claiming to be from Canada, and offering free advice for "x-number" of sessions, and then plan a neutral meeting point, or rendezvous. So, look for the signs and check the adults who've befriended your teens online - ask yourself; why and what are they up to, what business do they have contacting my daughter or son?

Also, be very skeptical of any coach, mentor, or adult friend on your teenager's Facebook page who fails to use their true and correct name. They must be hiding something, and it's about time you found out what, and asked yourself why! Please consider all this.
