Being A Math Tutor - The Importance Of A Individualize Method
Being a math tutor is a lot of responsibility
Being a math tutor is a lot of responsibility. We have to learn all the ways to resolve a math problem, we have to be able to resolve a problem rapidly (la bte noire of math tutor is to choke in front of a math problem), etc. But the biggest responsibility for a math tutor is the students. We all agree, every math tutor is different and it's the same with children. They all learn at a different speed and they all have different difficulties. They can have had a bad day or good one. In brief, the aren't robots. As math tutors, we have to remember this fact. In a multicultural environment like Montreal, it's even more important to remember that fact, because all the students come from different cultural backgrounds, from different schools and so, from different school systems. In Montreal or other multicultural cities, the math tutor has to know the situation of all the children. That's why a good math tutor provides an individual experience to each kid even when teaching in a group. That's where the computer or e-learning represents a tremendous advantage for the math tutor : he can assign specific exercises to each kid. That way, he can be sure that the student will do exercises related to his difficulty and skill. It's really important to provide a individualize experience to every student, because he's to most important variable. We are responsible for his success.
