Being More Efficient With Your Management Time
There are so many things that take up your time when you are operating a business of any size
. It doesnt matter if it is a small business, which sometimes even seems more overwhelming because you might be undertaking everything on your own; or if it is a medium sized or large company. They all hold their own hurdles, but they also all have things in common with one another.
There are chains of command, although the length of these chains will differ greatly, but there is a hierarchy that needs to be observed. Sometimes, as the business grows and the business gets larger and more complicated, a disconnect is formed between the chain of command and the workers. It happens gradually, a little bit at a time over a long period of time.
Generally a wall develops between the two disparate groups because of a fear from the other group. The workers that are a little lower on the totem pole are making an attempt to work their way up into the roles held by present management, and they are not sure if management is always doing things with their best interest in mind. There is a friction between the two groups which is difficult to resolve, however if it can be resolved, and a level of trust and communication is in place, then the process of getting the job accomplished can be much easier.
If the employees, the regular folk, are afraid to bring their thoughts to their superiors and present ways to help make the process better and more efficient, then there is a pool of thoughts and ingenuity that is not being taken advantage of. What causes the fears that open communication brings? Maybe they're afraid that if they speak up about an issue that has been done a specific way for a long period of time, that they and their idea will just be dismissed without real thought. Maybe they are afraid that if they present an idea for change to a superior that the idea will be utilized, although without proper acknowledgment and without the supervisor giving credit to the right person. Maybe even worse, the supervisor will take credit for a concept that was not theirs to begin with.
Either way, if these fears are unfounded and unreasonable, they do often rear their ugly heads in the workplace. That is why it is so important to put them to rest and encourage everybody to work towards an improved workplace.
