Belfast Christmas Continental Market and Shopping 2010
Belfast Christmas Continental Market and Shopping 2010
Christmas is upon us once again, and like the old catch phrase says Belfast has got the Buzz.
Saturday the 20th November is a date for the diary, as not only is it the evening when the Christmas tree lights will be switched on to the delight of the thousands in the watching crowds at Belfast City Hall, it is also the date when everyone's favourite, The Continental Market opens.
The Christmas Continental Market will be in town from the 20th November until the 19th December. With stalls from nearly 30 countries right across Europe. We will be tempted by German sausages, Italian pizza and French cheeses. The mulled wine will, as always be a very popular stall as will be the beer tent.
Mixed with all the varieties of gifts, soaps, novelty items and jewellery the Christmas market is definitely one of the highlights in the Belfast Christmas calendar.
The market will be in the grounds of Belfast City Hall Monday - Wednesday 10.00am - 8.00pm, Thursday - Saturday 10.00am - 10.00pm and Sunday 1.00pm - 6.00pm.
Also in the grounds of The City Hall will be Santa's Post Box, where the little ones can post their letters to Santa and all his little helpers. All the letters will receive a reply from the big man himself.
With Belfast having such a compact city centre it is very easy to get about and both buses and trains will leave visitors right in the heart of the city.
Within the city centre itself Belfast has two large shopping centres, Castle Court and Victoria Square.
Castle Court, situated on Royal Avenue has over 80 stores mostly the major chains including Debenhams and Laura Ashley. There are also many restaurants and cafes including Starbucks.
Victoria Square is only several years old and is situated over 4 floors. Here you can enjoy many shops, including The House of Fraser, restaurants, a very popular viewing gallery were you can see over the Belfast skyline and there is also a 8 screen Odeon Cinema.
Both shopping centres have multi level car parking available.
There will be extra on street parking available over the festive period as well as Park and Ride facilities with free bus travel for those using this service.
Many shops will be extending their opening hours as we get closer to the big day, most will certainly stay open until 9.00pm Wednesday ,Thursday and Friday.
For those people who would like to venture slightly out of the city centre, The Lisburn Road is very popular, with an excellent range of fashion boutiques, wine bars, cafes and restaurants. This will be an ideal place to find that something which is just that little bit different.
You will also see similar boutiques over in East Belfast on both Bloomfield Avenue and The Belmont Road.
So all in all, there is plenty of choice, plenty of free parking and of course plenty of good Belfast Christmas spirit.
