Bend The Rules: Job Hunt Advice
Looking for a job can be a long, frustrating and sometimes scary process
. It may seem like there just aren't that many opportunities out there for you. If you think differently, a job search can actually be somewhat pleasant. Motivation and dedication are two keys to securing your ultimate job.
Finding a job is a process that many people are accustomed to and may practice several times throughout their life. Waiting to find out if you've been hired is just another step in the process. The procedures may be familiar, but that doesn't mean that you're doing what's best for you. It never hurts to consider solving a problem in a new way.
Go to the job instead of waiting for it to find you. The typical action is to contact a company in response to some ad that you've seen advertising an open position. Instead, call some companies where you might like to work even if they aren't advertising a job opening. You can call a desirable company and sell yourself or you can ask questions that may open doors for you. Being familiar with particular business practice is also a good idea because it allows you to offer specific ways you can help the company.
Don't accept standard qualifications. Businesses often use stipulations like years of experience or a particular certification to discourage people who aren't dedicated to getting a position. If you have experience at a task, for example, then lacking a few sought-after characteristics isn't necessarily a bad thing. Go for a job even if you don't think you fit in at first glance. Companies teach their employees how things should be done, so initial guidelines are only part of the story. Also, employers may find that you have helpful abilities that they didn't initially seek out.
Think creatively. Standard strategies can be effective. After all, there's a reason that people use them. If you're searching for jobs in newspapers and magazines then you should also look on the Internet. Also, try creative approaches like designing a website or uploading video that lets you give your profile.
There's no right or wrong way to find a job. Following someone's guidelines is only right if it works for you. If you think creatively and go on the offensive, you greatly increase your chance for success.
