Benefit From Quran Recitation

There are nine rules for Quran recitation called Tajweed rules. Of these nine rules, the second rule concerns the physical state of the Quran reciter, while the last seven rules concern pronunciation and grammar. Our focus in this article is the first rule of Tajweed which concerns the reciter's manner and attitude. This first rule is defines the state of the Quran reciter's heart and requires the reciter to possess the following attributes.

Of all the prerequisites required, the first is that the hafiz or reciter of the Quran must know full well and believe that the Quraan is not the word of man, but the speech of Allaah. The Quran is the speech of Allah, and this speech is in the Arabic language. This means that anything that's not Arabic isn't the Qur'an, or that the original Quran cannot be in any other language except Arabic. This also means that one cannot pray in any other language, such as in English, French, Swahili, Urdu, etc., although one can privately supplicate to Allaah in any language. The original Quranic text must be in the Arabic language, anything else is just a translation of the meaning of the Quran.

The second prerequisite is that the before reciting Quran the reader must free and clear his, or her, mind of all other thoughts before reading The Quraan. The complete focus of the reciter while reading the Quran must be on the words, their meanings, and the implications of their meanings. The reader, therefore, must fully understand the meaning and significance of the words and Ayahs of the Quraan being recited by him, or her. (Ayahs = Verses. The Arabic word Ayah' means Sign')

Other prerequisites are that the reader must be a person of humble nature. He, or she, should feel that every message in the Quraan is meant personally for himself, or herself. And last, but not least, the Quran reader should understand the proper pronunciation of Arabic alphabet.

The Quran is not a holy lecture written in harsh language. It is the most eloquent speech possible and appeals best to person of high intellect who seeks guidance. Therefore, only after meeting all the above mentioned requirements can a Quran reader hope to benefit truly from the Quran.
