Benefiting From Crackle Finish

. With new things, some simple painting will make a difference.

To achieve that weathered look, there is a type of paint that you should get. Here is a painting technique that a lot of people have been using.This is a foolproof technique.

This is how you can make a new wall look pretty worn out. The materials you will need are latex satin wall paint, crackle medium, paint brush for latex paint, roller and roller cover, drop cloths and masking tape.

24 hours is the optimal drying time that you need for the walls after you put a base coat of latex paint. When it comes to the walls, for another color to show through the crackle, you need a satin finish for the base coat. Craft stores sell crackle finish in small pint containers, and paint stores sell it in larger quart or gallon containers.

The number of coats of crackle finish depends on how big the project is. Flower pots only call for one application of crackle finish.

You can use the masking tape to protect certain areas of the piece you will be working on. When you paint, always have a brush or roller.

For walls and the like, it is necessary for the edges to be cut in before the paint is rolled on. Read the manufactures directions, but it generally takes 30 minutes to an hour to dry.

Only apply the top coat of paint when the crackle finish has dried. You will not get a good finish if the crackle is left for too long. Considering the top coat of latex satin paint, there are two methods to apply it.

Finer cracks can be accomplished with the use of a natural sea sponge and a paint brush will provide you with much larger cracks when the paint dries. Most of the time, brushes work best for walls. It is not as easy of a job to apply crackle finish.

Begin the process by starting at one end of the wall you are working on. One or more applications of paint after the crackle is applied will only cause the cracks to be erased and you will end up with a mess.

Just a little tip, as we were brushing the paint onto the wall, we brushed as far out as we could reach and worked our way from the ceiling to the floor. Starting from one corner and moving on to the next was the way that we painted.
