Benefits Of The Rv Lifestyle
With so much doom and gloom around about the economy many people are looking for
cheaper ways to live, not just because they'd like a change of lifestyle, but because they need one.
You might think that becoming a nomad would be something to avoid, but a surprising number of people are taking to the road and finding it not just a cheaper way to live, but a better one. And it makes sense.
Swapping your home for an RV will in many cases mean no mortgage payments, no home insurance, no home owners association fees, no flood insurance, no termite insurance, no garden maintenance costs. And the benefits don't stop there. The pace and focus of life changes: you don't need a suit to go to the office you don't have any dry-cleaning bills. You'll only have one vehicle to run (albeit a big one) and you won't have any home owners associations telling you can't have this or that growing in your own garden.
But perhaps the best part of the mobile lifestyle is the sense, and reality of freedom. An RV can be used as a base for all sorts of hobbies or activities and since you always carry your belongings with you, you don't even need to waste time packing and unpacking. They may look slow and cumbersome, but when you compare the time spent waiting in airports, delayed flights, security checks, queuing for rental cars etc., travelling by RV can turn out to be just as fast, but far less stressful. You can travel as a couple of take the whole family for almost no extra cost, and with a bit of preparation you can also take pets.
At $35-$60 per night, parking an RV is far cheaper than a hotel and most RV sites give discounts for longer stays. $500 per month is not impossible. If you decide to make the move to an RV permanent there are clubs you can join which provide considerable discounts in exchange for a monthly or yearly fee.
If you enjoy beautiful scenery you can simply spend time travelling from one beauty spot to the next, most of the National parks have RV parks, and many are especially stunning at times of year when there are few visitors around. This requires a little planning; some RV's have more insulation than others and careful choice of camp sites can make a big difference to winter comfort, not all camp grounds offer electrical hook ups.
Trees and mountains covered with a thick blanket of snow, glittering waterfalls, frost tinted leaves, all sitting just outside your front door; it's an appealing picture, but the mountains can be dangerous in winter. You need to take the right precautions, carry spare fuel, all the medications you need and a reliable method of communication like a CB system. Be sure you have warm clothes and blankets and a good supply of long lasting food, just in case you get snowed in.
With the right preparations you get to enjoy scenery most people never see. And if you tire of the snow, simply turn around and head South. With a RV you can always be just where you want to be.
