When you are a young student the road ahead can look a little sketchy at times and

The live in nanny industry has received a few pieces of negative press over the years as there have been a number of high profile cases involving abuse either to or from the au pair. However, the governments around the world are constantly working on ways to improve the safety aspects for the live in nanny and the families to ensure that the industry can flourish once more. One recent success was when the Swiss government passed new law to help protect and enable Philippine individuals to visit the country once more.

So what can you expect when you apply to be a live in nanny? All of your accommodation fees are taken care of from the host family, so you can live and work abroad in comfort without having to worry about paying the electricity, water or gas bills. You will get your meals included in your stay. It is part of the host family's obligations to look after the au pair. To top it off you can also expect to receive a small wage from the host family, this is factored in so that in your spare time you can get out and about and explore your new surroundings.

So what is expected of you? As an au pair, you will be expected to fulfil a number of tasks around the house, but your main task will be to look after the host family's children. Most people are fairly good with children, but it goes without saying that if you have no interest in looking after children then becoming an au pair is out of the question for you. As well as being the family's child carer, you will also be expected to help out and perform some of the maintenance and cleaning task around the house, but this is still a small task when you consider what you receive in return.
