Benzo Withdrawl Syndrome Is Caused Gaba Neurotransmitters Dependency On The Drugs

There are a lot of different drugs that you can find in the class of drugs called Benzodiazepine

. A few familiar ones would be Valium, Halcion and Xanax. This class of drugs will have five different types of effects on the people who take them. Those would be what is called hypnotic, those drugs that help with sleep. Anxiolytic are those that are given for anxiety issues, anti seizure to reduce seizures and convulsions, muscle relaxants and those that impair short and long term memory that are called amnesic effects. Drugs that are in the Benzodiazepine class more than likely can or will cause Benzo Withdrawl Syndrome.

The idea behind these drugs is that they are to be used to help the GABA or gamma amino butyric acid neurotransmitters in our brains to work more efficiently. The job of GABA is to work as a natural hypnotic or tranquilizer for our bodies. When these GABA transmitters fail to work properly a Benzo class drug can be prescribed to help.

All of these drugs can be dangerous and can cause dependency. It is hard to say how long a dependency will take but there have been cases where people have become addicted or dependent on them within just two short weeks. Others may have a 50 percent chance of dependency after six months and for those who have been on these kinds of drugs for a year or more have an extremely high chance of becoming completely dependent upon them.

Dependency is thought to happen because the drugs eventually make it harder for the GABA neurotransmitters to function on their own. They become dependent upon the stimulation that comes from the benzo class of drugs that have been stimulating them into action. This then causes over stimulation in many different parts of the cells of the brain causing a variety of different symptoms.

This syndrome can be quite serious and can for some people last a very long time if you were to compare it to some other withdrawal symptoms of other drugs and a person may find it extremely hard to break out of the dependency with out serious help.

When a person begins to have symptoms of withdrawal it is because the body has become tolerant to the drug and is requiring more in order to reach the level of stimulation it has become accustomed to. This can also happen when the dose has been lowered or if the person has been taken totally off of the drug.

The more common symptoms one can experience can be a vast variety of things such as inability to sleep good, suicidal thoughts or actions, pain in the joints and muscles, rage, mood swings, depression, tremors, flu symptoms, vision that is blurred, ringing in the ears, sensitive to external stimulation and many more symptoms that can lead to problems that can need medical attention.
