Fortune determines the 100 Best Companies to Work For through a massive survey of employees throughout corporate America. This year 311 companies were surveyed. The survey asks questions about attitudes toward management, camaraderie and job satisfaction. Another section of the survey addresses hiring practices, benefit programs, training, recognition and communications.

A company becomes eligible if it is at least seven years old and has more than 1,000 employees in the United States. Applications for the list that will be on the survey for 2012 is June 15, 2011.
