Sonography is mainly done for the evolution of the precious aspects of human, fetus. This cannot be replaced by any other modality and the sonography is the primary base line of evaluation in the abdominal disorder and also disorders of other organs.

The three basic classification of Sonography are interventional Sonography, routine Sonography and color and dopper Doppler. Sonography is mainly based on the ultra sound with the frequency of 20 KHZ. When sound waves of the high frequency is travelling forward they move until it contacts the object. After the contact with object some sound is bounced back. The ultra sound with the frequency of 1 to 15 MHZ is being beamed in to human body and it is then detected by the echoes that returns. The sonographer will place the scan head transducer on the area it needs to be scanned. Aqueous gel is being applied over the area on the skin to ensure the air free path. The transducer is then moved over the scanning area for examination. Then ultrasound will penetrate and will strike on organ an then reflects back to the body surface. Then, the sound waves that are returned by the transducer are detected. The echoes are processed by the computer in two dimensional images that appear on screen. The appeared image is called sonogram.

The sonography has some advantages like it is painless and non invasive. Sonography is safe using than radiography as it do not cause any radiation exposure. It is very comfortable and less expensive. The foetal growth is assessed with the help of Sonography . The abnormalities like the spinal bifida can be detected with Sonography. It also helps to diagnose obstruction in uterus, gall stone, kidney stone, obstruction in intestine, cirrhosis and also oviducts. This also helps to measure the flow of blood through arteries, veins and heart based on the Doppler Effect phenomenon.

The routine type of sonography will help to know the condition of the baby and if there is any abnormal developments in the baby. It also helps to identify any injuries, TB, tumors, jaundice, thyroid, breast diseases, valve defects and many more.

The interventional Sonography is used for detecting tumor biopsy, abnormalities in the chromosome of fetus, abnormal fluid collection and many more. The dopper and color Doppler sonography will help to know the functions of the body organs. This type of sonography is helpful to deter the presence of cancer or tumor, to know the growth of the baby in uterus, blood flow evaluation and detect heart disease.
