Also, quite often people tell me that they already have a Master's degree from an accredited school, and their job, ministry, or license is secure because of that degree. Now, they would like to have a Doctorate for personal reasons. For them, the Doctorate is not for career improvement; it is for personal improvement. Generally, for such individuals, a degree for a legitimate, well regarded, unaccredited school can be very satisfactory and more than adequate.

If the degree is needed for a new job, a salary increase, or a state license, be sure to find out specifically if a degree from a specific schools will glad enter into correspondence with employer, state agencies, or others you may designate, to explain their programs and establish their credentials. I have heard from people who have lost thousands of dollars and wasted incredible amounts of time completing degrees that were useless to them. But the school said it was accredited, they lamented. Well, the school's administrators lied.
