Unlike the first version, this game can be played by four players at the same time. The game starts as Mario finds himself in a situation where he needed to defeat Bowser's cronies in order to save Princess Peach. This game is comparable to the first release when it comes to game play. You will be given power ups like the Star Man, Fire Flower, and the Ice Flower that will make your rescue mission a lot easier.

Aside from the cronies, Mario also needed to defeat the sons of Bowser named Bowser Jr. and Koopalings before facing Bowser. The four characters that the players can control are the 2 Toad, Luigi, and Mario himself. Once you played the game, you will feel like playing the 2D version, but a lot better when it comes to graphics.
