To give some idea of how hard it is to get good Green Star ratings, stakeholder input is involved in awards of ratings. This is a serious effort to achieve quality results, and it's doing exactly that, drastically raising manufacturing standards for PVCs nationally.
PVC design issues
PVC is a useful material, and under proper design and manufacturing control, it's safe. You can see why the Green Star rating is such a good method for carpet design. The need for designers is to use a reliable, safe product which provides high tensile strength required for backing for products like
retail carpet, industrial carpet squares, sustainable carpets and commercial grade carpet. The Green Star rated PVCs are a working map of materials, specifications, and safety considerations.
That means that all environmental, chemical, and design issues are accurately factored into the design process. The Green Stars feedback process also allows for any issues to be found and addressed instantly, adding a further level of safeguards for consumers and manufacturers alike. This is a particularly effective design control mechanism, allowing designers to deal with issues before they become problems, and to ensure strict, measured quality control for products.

Carpets occupy huge areas of living and working space, and nobody wants to be worrying about quality or safety.
