In the start of the year 2007, Apple Inc. launched fantastic multimedia smart phone named as Iphone. Main features of this phone included touch-screen, text messaging, ability to play media files, camera, and many internet options including browsing, e-mail, and Wi-Fi connectivity etc.

The iphone applications make an effort to enhance the usability experience of an iphone user. In mid 2008, the third part applications App Store service of Apple Inc. were launched to enable the users to download applications. Till now, about 200,000 applications are launched on the App store, games, references, GPS navigation, various social networking websites and advertising for films and shows are included in these applications. Some of the applications are totally free of cost and some demands very less money to download the application, depending upon the nature of the application. There are two options to download these applications, either directly to the phone or to the computer by using iTunes service.

Apple has introduced various applications which include business applications, games, entertainment and educational applications. Among the most popular purchased applications, the Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D was rated number 1. The most downloaded free applications concluded Facebook as the number 1 and google earth as number 2.

According to a survey in 2009, among the top 30 selling applications for iphone, 9 were a creation of EA mobile. Among the top 30 list, the most popular game applications included games like Real Racing and Flight Control. The list also includes various navigation applications. Chef Jamie Oliver's 20 minute means app and Smules I Am T-Pain are also included in the category of the best iphone apps. The list also included the Arsenal FC's official app and Sling Media's Sling Player Mobile applications.
