To follow up our recent run-down of the best albums of 2010, we've decided to put together a list of some of our favourite singles of 2010. We've done a lot of single reviews at All-Noise this year, and could easily have made a list of about 100 singles that have hit the spot this year, but to keep things short and sweet we've narrowed it down to the five singles that have grabbed our attention in 2010.

Arcade Fire We Used To Wait

2010 has turned out to be quite a year for these likeable Canadians. With the release of their third album, The Suburbs, they fulfilled the early promise of their first two albums and then some becoming one of the worlds biggest and most important bands in the process. This first single heralded their arrival as mega stars in style, introducing the nostalgic focus of the album and proving they had grown out of the macabre goth outlook of their earlier work.

Gorillaz Stylo

Another band hitting their third album stride in 2010 were Gorillaz releasing Plastic Beach to wall-to-wall critical and commercial success this year. With a list of top-class collaborators that included the likes of Snoop Dog, Gruff Rhys, Mark E Smith and Lou Reed it was never going to be anything but astonishing but if anyone needed convincing, then 'Stylo' would have put any doubts to bed. Featuring an emotional and stirring vocal from Bobby Womack and an inventive rap from Mos Def, 'Stylo' was one of the most memorable and defining songs of 2010.

Eminem feat. Rihanna Love The Way You Lie

There were two rap-pop crossover smashes in 2010 that will probably end up defining the year in the future. We picked this one over Jay Z and Alicia Keys' effort simply because it confirmed Eminem's amazing return to the peak of his powers. It's brutally stark and emotional subject matter also helped it stand out over Jigga's New York love-in.

The Ting Tings Hands

'So clap your hands if you're working too hard'. Come on, be honest who didn't sing along to that line at least once this year? The Ting Tings impressively catchy return this year got us all bopping along. After decamping to techno capital Berlin, this first glimpse shows that their new album will be one to watch out for in 2011!

Manic Street Preachers (It's Not War) Just The End Of Love

The Welsh legends went for a slight change of pace this year ditching the edgy political poetry of last album Journal of Plague Lovers for the outrageously bombastic Postcards From A Young Man. From the opening salvo of radio-friendly guitars and stirring strings, it was clear the Manics were back to the stadium filling days of Everything Must Go with this lead single offering ridiculously massive choruses designed to get arenas swaying.
