What is Stretch Marks?

Look at those lines..Those are stretch marks. I believe that no woman alive wants to have those pinkish white lines stretchedacrosstheir skin. It is unfortunate that pregnancy, supposedly the most beautiful thing that could ever happen in a woman's life, does have a tendency to ruin her skin.

How can that happen?

Stretch marks are caused by damage on both the epidermis (surface) layer of the skin, and the dermis layer (the second layer) of the skin.

The primary cause is the breaking of collagen & elastic fibers in sub-dermis layer duringANYskin expansion process, like your expanding lower belly & breasts during pregnancy, those with massive tumors, and body builders.

Reduce (or slow down) the expansion.

Plan your weight gain. Discuss your ideal weight gain with your physician, plan your diet, and consume accordingly.

Moisturize to increase your skin's elasticity.

Start as early as your first trimester, and keep moisturizing your skin everyday. A nourishing lotion, oil or cream applied on a daily and nightly basis will moisturize your skin (and also reduce itching).

Are there any good stretch marks treatment available?

The bad news is stretch marks are permanent and never disappear unless you do something about it. Up to this day, only cosmetic surgery can permanently remove any stretch marks. This method leaves another permanent scar however, and no insurance will cover for it.
