There are many examples of information on social networks getting people in trouble, or worse. These are not just the awkward picture with your ex situations, but times when peoples home have been broken in to. Here are a couple tips on what you should not share on social networking sites.

Personal Conversations and Plans

When it comes to personal matters, take it offline. No one needs to know about your personal life, and there is nothing more annoying than getting constant email updates about a conversation between two other people.

Company Information

What happens at work stays at work. This includes business information as well as what you think about your boss. You never know who might be reading what you post on networking sites. Griping about your boss and/or co-workers can come back to them. Even more seriously, sharing certain company information can even get you fired.

Your Personal Information

We live in an age where almost everything is shared, but that does not mean that you can't keep things private. Posting your address and phone number on social networking sites opens you up to all kinds of problems, from merely annoying to downright dangerous. People who you would rather not call you will have easy access to your phone number. Even worst, identity thieves know where you live.

This one might seem obvious, but it does happen. Apart from posting actual passwords, you should be careful not to post anything that might give password hints. This is especially true if you use the same password for all of your secure sites (which you should absolutely never do!). Most web sites will require security questions such as "what is your mother's maiden name" or "what was your first pet's name" in the event that you forget a password. Avoid maker these easier for potential criminals and others to guess based on the information you make public.

Everyone has those embarrassing pictures you would rather not broadcast to the world. Even when others tag them, you have the right to un-tag yourself and ask the person to remove them. Especially if you are job hunting, keep your profile clean and respectable.
