An year on, the scars of thetragedy still remain fresh for the blood-related of the dead and the survivors. Although they have reconciled themselves to the unreplaceable loss, they have literally gone on the far side Carlton by committing themselves to spread the spirit of fire safety among Bangaloreans. The families who lost their loved ones have got collectively and brought together hands with the survivors to form a body called Beyond Carlton' which strives to educate people about safety measures. Beyond Carlton' are trying to collect authorities and public support and talking to people on how one could work together to prevent another Carlton. The families of victims confess that they do not expect an drastic change to take place in a year's time They're willing to wait and watch until something concrete are acted. Uday Vijayan, founder member, Beyond Carlton who lost his son Akhil Uday in the tragedy says he will never come to conditions with the loss but has moved on to educate people on fire safety. "We have to spread awareness on fire safety and how to avert similar tragedies in future. It is important that the public join hands for this cause," explains Udayan. Shantha Kumar, an employee with Myntra who lost his wife Benzie Kumar says he accepted almost eight months to overcome the tragedy.

"After the dust settled down and relatives and friends got on with their own lives, I felt a sense of emptiness. I have two daughters to take take care of and I decided to gather my strength and move on. Now I am an active member of Beyond Carlton' and will do whatever I can to talk to people and educate them about fire safety," he says. Monica Bakhle, who lost her husband Siddhartha Padam, says she was left in the dark. "I learnt to admit what had happened and not resist it or even challenge it. I had no idea about Siddhartha's financial condition, insurance... I learnt all from scratch and had to find a job to look after my two small children. My husband's friends and my family have been a great support," she points out. While those who have lost their loved ones have acquired a more positive mental attitude, the survivors still combat with the repercussions of the tragedy. Maneesha, a survivor almost lost her voice after the incident. "Her larynx was damaged. She could not speak and spent almost 50 days in the intensive care unit after the tragedy. Nowadays, she breathes and talks with the help of a tube that has inserted into her throat through a small hole," says Salil Lal Ahmed, a businessman and Maneesha's fianc who has stood by her like a rock. Salil thinks it's a long way before the people and the authorities will realise the importance of fire safety. Nitin Dubey, senior manager with Equis, who also survived the incident observes that the tragedy has made him stronger. "I am now careful about the little things around me. I be sure I turn off the gas cylinder and that the fire extinguishers in the flat where I live and the building I work in are up-to-date," alleges Nitin and adds, "but I am appalled by the indifference of public. They prefer to mind their own up business and are alarmed only when something alike happens to them,"
