Biloxi Travel Plans Are A Must For Vacationers
Summer is the most popular time for Biloxi travel
, but the city is usually popular with snowbirds during the winter season. Weekends are busy, especially holiday weekends. The general number of Biloxi hotel rooms has been diminished by Hurricane Katrina which makes booking rooms beforehand a thoughtful choice.
The closest big airport is Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport. Biloxi is situated between New Orleans LA and Mobile AL; by car, access to Biloxi is primarily by Interstate 10.
After Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005, 90 percent of the buildings along the county's coast were damaged. Despite this devastation, Biloxi moved swiftly to rebuild. Currently, eleven Biloxi casinos are back in business, making it second only to Las Vegas in gaming space. In March 2009, the Restore Biloxi Project was funded to rebuilt or repair virtually all areas damaged by Katrina. The newly built or renovated casino resorts are much more luxurious, provide even more kinds of entertainment, and wider and more exciting selections in dining. Different businesses and attractions are opening and reopening steadily as the city's economy improves.
As Biloxi proceeds to rebuild and regroup, Biloxi travel is no longer defined strictly by the town's casino resorts. Vacationers may also spend their leisure hours at the picturesque beaches of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. While in Biloxi, visitors can once again see Beauvoir, the Jefferson Davis Home and Library, and the Biloxi Lighthouse - one of the most picturesque and frequently photographed sites of the area. Located in Biloxi's Town Green are the Hurricane Camille Memorial and the Hurricane Katrina Memorial. For shopping, tourists can go to the Point Cadet Plaza Shopping Center, Edgewater Plaza Shopping Center, Pops Ferry Shopping Center and the Vieux Marche Mall Shopping Center. Biloxi's cuisine is surely an enticing mixture of Spanish, French, Cajun, and classic Southern cuisine.
Additional attractions include the Mardi Gras Museum, which lets visitors know that Mardi Gras is not just a New Orleans affair. Located in the historic Magnolia Hotel, Biloxi's Mardi Gras Museum traces the three hundred year history of the celebration of Mardi Gras on the Gulf Coast through displays of costumes, photographs and memorabilia.
The limitations of your Biloxi travel experience are defined only by your imagination! Book your
Biloxi hotel, condo or vacation rental today.
