Binding Machine Tips

It doesn't matter if you are a seasoned pro when it comes to binding and binding

machines or a beginner, there are a few things that can make your binding projects easier. Comb binding machines are pretty easy to use, but there are a few things you can do to make them run smoothly and in doing so you will avoid some common hassles when it comes to your binding projects.

Insert small stacks of pages to be bound in the binder. It is better for your machine if you use smaller amounts of sheets even though it's tempting to try to add all of your pages at once. Adding all of your pages in one go can actually make your machine not function well. Be patient and bind in smaller batches, this is better for your machine and your stress level.

Know your machine. Take into account the capacity your machine claims to be able to handle. Some machines have a punching capacity of 25 or more pages. Don't run your machine at maximum capacity all the time. Give your machine some leeway, don't use it at maximum capacity all the time. This will save on the wear and tear and make your binder last longer.

Some machines have a margin setting that is adjustable. This allows you to set the amount of space from the edge of the sheet to where the holes are punched. You can experiment with this setting to get the best results for your project This takes some experimentation to get right. If your projects are bound too far from the edge of the sheets it will be difficult to turn the pages and your finished project will not lay flat when open.


Keep your machine waste tray clear. You can keep your machine running smoothly and cut down on the wear and tear on your machine simply by emptying the waste tray frequently. A full waste tray makes punching more difficult and adds more stress on the punching dies. This simple thing can lead to much more efficient and easier binding.

Following these easy tips will make your binding projects much easier and you'll produce much better results. Using your machine with care will give you many completed projects and you will get a lot of use out of your binding machine.
