Travel And Optics
I love to travel I went to Tanzania in 2006 on safari. I had a private guide so I was not on any one else schedule I could stay in one spot as long as I liked or move on. I also got information on a more personal level and got close to my guide, who had some places he would not take groups too, so maybe I saw things that others usually do not. I travel with a lot of photography equipment and optics I like to take pictures and view wild life. I have a pair of binoculars with VR (vibration reduction) I spend a lot of time in the evening cleaning my optics from the days dust, and getting my equipment ready for the next day
Vibration Reduction
This term to most of us does not seam very important, but any one familiar with cameras and trying to take a picture of something in the distance knows the term shutter shake. Unless you have your camera on a tripod, hand holding a camera some times the picture comes out blurred. When you press the button to take a picture the camera shakes a little and the picture gets blurred. If you are excited and try to take a picture on the fly the picture can be blurry. If it is cold the same scenario, blurry picture. Binoculars equipped with a vibration reduction feature there is no need for a tripod they are unaffected by either shake or roll, and allows stable viewing even when panning or tilting. Some use a servo control system with the prisms supported by gimbals to provide a view that is unaffected by either shake or vibration.
Features That Are Optional?
The VR (vibration reduction) was a feature that greatly enhanced my experience so I would say that was not just an optional feature. It made all the difference between a good trip and a great trip. High magnification viewing, waterproof, fogproof are other you should not consider to be optional. Look for lenses that are fully multicoated, and prisms that are phase-correction coated for the ultimate in brightness and resolution.
If you are traveling a great distance or even with in miles of your home your viewing experience will be increased when the binoculars have a VR feature.
