Birdwatching With Window Tint

Message:

Message:

''I have a bird feeder hanging outside my dining room window for the enjoyment of my cats and me. I would like to put some kind of semi-reflective film on the window so the birds can't see us, but we can see them. I would like to let as much light in as possible. I also don't want anything so reflective that the birds will get confused and fly in to the window. I really don't know anything about window tint, but I was thinking of using a Silver 35% VLT. I was hoping you might be able to help me. Is this a good choice for my needs or can you suggest something better, please? Thank you so much for any information you can provide.''

Response:

We have actually gotten this message quite a few times. Many bird watchers request increased privacy for themseleves so the birds will come close to the windows and not know there is anyone there. For this situation, anything reflective will do the trick. Remeber that reflective films give the most privacy during the day because once it is on the window, people outside see more of their reflection and less of what is inside. A plain Silver will work fine, but a dual-reflective will work better since you also want to see out. And if you're concerned about the birds as well, go with a lighter film, like a 25% or 35%. This way there's still slight visibility inside the window and they won't crash into it.
