Bittersweet Experiences During Freshman Year

Being new to college life, you hope that everything would turn out smooth for you

.

You will not have to deal with bullies. You will not have to to worry about overprotective parents. You can choose who you want to be friends with. You can go home anytime you want. And nobodys going to guard what you wear, unless theres a strict dress code in the campus.

But as nobody ever promised college to be a bed of roses, expect that there will be tough times. And some of them may be these ones were mentioning.

Breaking up with young love. You were so attached to this person you have dated in middle school. You both agreed that you will stay together despite going to different universities. At first, the communication was constant. There wasn't a day that you did not hear from them. They would respond to your messages immediately.

But as the semester progresses, things also change. You don't get to talk that often as you did before. And more often than not, you only argue. And before the freshman year ends, you call it quits. You figured perhaps that it is best you unload a burden as you already have your plate full.

Losing touch with old friends. This is also another usual sad encounter of freshman students -not having enough time to ask how your old friends are doing. There is a lot going on in the campus. It is your first time to live away from home and you still cannot cope with your roommate, the course works are a lot more difficult now and you still are having a hard time inquiring from other students you barely know. And you think the same thing is also happening with your friends.

In the middle of the transition from high school to college, you somehow lose track of people who have been part of your past, but only so you can truly immerse yourself in the new environment you are in. But youll manage eventually, and once you have already coped with college, then you will have more time to catch up with your old friends and maybe even introduce them to your new ones.

Missing family. You probably cannot wait to move out of the house and experience not being restrained by curfews. You probably long for the time when anybody would tell you which friends you should be keeping and which you should not. Still, there are instances when you feel so homesick that calling or video chatting with your family is just isnt enough to make up for your longing.

But you have no choice but to be content with those quick conversations, and take the opportunity to get back home when you can. With the several tasks you ought to complete, you cannot afford to accommodate sadness. You will have to get going.

Embarrassed in public. You will trip over at the cafeteria or at the dining halls, where that attractive student can see your so not flattering moment in clear view. You will experience being called by your professor and having no decent answer to give, and there is the rest of the class, all eyes staring as you, as though measuring your abilities from the outside.

Today, you may feel humiliated and wish that you just disappear, but as the days pass, you will get over those embarrassing moments. You will later look back, laughing hard.

So don't push too hard on yourself to calculate your every move. Everybody commits mistakes during the freshman year.
