Makes good coffee
When my last Mr. Coffee died (I've had at least 3) I thought I'd try something different. Reviewing prices the B&D seemed fair. It makes the coffee as quickly, if not faster than Mr. C. After using it for a month I haven't had the problem of the filter paper folding over so that grounds get in the carafe which would happen occasionally with Mr. C. The coffee tastes fine. The insulated carafe does keep the coffee warm but after an hour it isn't as warm as I was used to. On the positive side it also doesn't make the hour old coffee bitter. I like that I don't have to worry about breaking the carafe while I'm rinsing it out (I've done that once with Mr. C)
Superb coffee maker
This coffee maker is simple and easy to operate. Makes great hot coffee that stays warm in the unheated carafe for about 30 minutes after brewing.
Coffee Not Hot Enough, Trouble with Consistency
I had this coffee maker for six months before going out and buying a Mr. Coffee thermal carafe coffee maker to replace it.
I really wanted to like this coffee maker, since it was a thermal carafe and at such a good price. However, it was disappointing. After a month or two I started to notice that the coffee wasn't very hot. I also started to be annoyed at my inability to make consistently good coffee - how many years have I been a regular coffee drinker, with no such problems -. I think the cups are labeled larger than my older makers so I had to add extra coffee to get the same strength coffee at similar cup counts.
The thing that made me switch in the end was the lukewarm coffee. You think it's hot and wonder why it's cold after 5 minutes.
Just used the new Mr. Coffee and the coffee comes out the way I used to make it, and is HOT to boot!
Sorry to diss this machine, but it's hurting as far as hot coffee goes.
One aside - thermal carafe coffee makers take a bit of getting used to because you can't see whether you have coffee in them or not. If you assume you have none left without checking you're liable to get a flood on your counter. Happened to me numerous times. Don't blame it on the coffee maker, reviewers, the problem lies with us!
Amazing Value
Incredible value & functionality! We love the thermal carafe and the autostop feature. It's also very easy to use. Makes better coffee than our old Delonghi at half the cost. The only nit is without any water indicator, and you can't see the water level in the carafe, you have to measure out the water you're putting in. But not a big deal for us.
