Talk to your BlackBerry 8330 service provider. Although your phone already has the modem functionality within its operating system, it will need to be "turned on" by your service provider. Also make sure to ask whether there are any additional services or subscription fees associated with activating the modem service.

Power on your laptop and download the BlackBerry 8330 modem management software and drivers from yur phone carrier's website. All of these components should be in one carrier-specific modem suite. Your service provider should have a download area on their site for customers with this feature turned on, and you should be able to get a CD with this software from your carrier's store.

Connect your BlackBerry 8330 to the laptop using the mini-USB data cord that was bundled with your phone when you bought it. Plug the small end of the cord into the data/charge port on the left side of your phone, and the large end into one of your laptop's USB ports. Once this has been done, a small window will pop up saying that the computer has detected your BlackBerry device. Ignore this window for now.

Launch the BlackBerry 8330 software you installed in Step 2. A setup wizard should appear. This setup wizard will detect your BlackBerry 8330 and set it as a modem in your operating system. Follow the prompts and BlackBerry 8330 software will manage your connection from there. When you want to disconnect, go to the "File" menu of the BlackBerry 8330 software and click "Disconnect." You can then disconnect your phone from the computer.
