Blackjack Rules

The aim of the game in Blackjack is for the total value of your cards to be closer to 21 than the dealer's cards, without getting over 21. Number cards are, unsurprisingly, worth their face value; face cards are worth 10; aces are worth either 1 or 11.

Blackjack is achieved if you are dealt an ace and a card with a value of ten as your first two cards.

If your cards are closer to 21 in value than the dealer's cards then you win 100% of your bet.

If the cards you are dealt are worth more than 21 you have gone 'bust' and you will lose your bet.

If you tie with the dealer and your cards are worth 17 or more, your bet is returned to you in what is called a 'push'.

A score of 21 is beaten by Blackjack.

Most online casino games (including WagVegas) follow the standard 'Las Vegas Strip' Blackjack rules

After the dealer has dealt you your first two cards, if the cards are of the same value (e.g. you are dealt two sevens), you will have the opportunity to split the cards into separate hands. If you choose to split your hand you will be required to place a second bet with the same value as your original bet.

The game will then continue on as normal with cards being dealt to both hands in turn. You may draw as many or as few cards to each hand as you wish, with the exception of split aces where you will only receive one extra card for each of your hands. If you are dealt a 'ten' card after you have split your hand, it will be treated as 21 and not Blackjack.

Double Your Blackjack Bet

After you have been dealt your first two cards, if you think that the third card to be dealt to you will beat the dealer's hand, you will be permitted to double your original bet. You will then be dealt the third card.

Blackjack Insurance

If the dealer is dealt an Ace in his original hand, you may insure your bet against the dealer having Blackjack. This is done by placing a sum equal to half of your original bet on the table. If the dealer then subsequently gets Blackjack, you will be paid 2 to 1 on your insurance i.e. you will not lose your original bet. If the dealer does not subsequently get Blackjack, you lose your insurance, regardless of who wins the round.

10 Card Charlie

In theory, it is possible to be dealt 10 cards without going bust. If this happens, you will automatically win the round unless the dealer has a Blackjack hand.
