Blender Troubles

I am one of the least picky shoppers you have probably ever met

. My sister and mum love to hit all the big sales and they each have an impressive coupon collection, but that has never been my thing. However, I recently went looking for a new blender online and that experience taught me to at least look at seller profiles and product reviews before making a purchase.

I simply have never had such a horrible experience! I have shopped online for a long time and this is my first time being burned. Live and learn, I suppose.

I'm not a chef and don't have a family to feed, but I enjoy making smoothies for myself. I've experimented with making my own hummus and creamy soups, too. When my blender broke, I set to buying a new one right away.

Things went wrong from the day that the delivery deadline went whooshing past. I had paid extra to get it to my house by Thursday at the latest and it didn't arrive until Monday! It showed up the same day it would have had I not spend the extra money on upgrading shipping and handling.

Inside the cardboard shipping box, the blender was, just as advertised, new in the box. I set it up right away and started preparing a savory winter squash soup for my dinner. I read the directions to make sure I didn't put too much food at once in my beautiful new blender.

The moment I hit the blend button, however, there was a puff of black smoke and a smell of burning plastic. Upon inspection, the electrical cord was scorched and melted right at the point where it connects to the back of the blender.

I was a little shaken at first. I'm not used to having electrical fires in my kitchen on a casual Monday afternoon! I unplugged the blender from the wall to be safe and then started making a different dish for my meal, giving the smoking blender evil looks while cooking.

I was, eventually, able to send the blender back to the seller (at their cost, not mine) and get fully reimbursed for the purchase. I made a point to get the money back for expedited shipping, too, since the broken item has showed up days after it was supposed to.

At some point during the return process, I went back to the seller's post and did a little research. Sure enough, product reviews were decent for the item itself but everyone who had purchased from the seller I chose had a bad experience. Since I'm not a picky person, I didn't think reading the comments would do me any good, but I can tell you when I once again started shopping for a blender the seller and product reviews were the first thing I turned to!
