Fever blister is an infection caused by herpes simplex virus type 1
. Alternative names for fever blister are called cold sore, herpes oral, herpes labialis. It leads to the development of small, red and usually painful blisters on the skin of the lips, mouth, gums, or lip area. These blisters are usually called fever blisters. There are a number of factors that can trigger a fever blister outbreak. One of them is stress. It has been recorded that people in high stress situation are extremely prone to getting an outbreak.
Once you get this, the virus will still remain in the nerve cells in your skin and may reoccur again as an active infection, and it can outbreak by triggered certain of thing, include:
- menstruation.
- Sun exposure.
- Wind exposure.
- Avoid foods contain arginine, such as those containing chocolate, peanuts and other nuts, grains, peas, corn, seeds, oats and whole-wheat dairy products should be reduced from the diet.
- Illness with fever.
- Stress.
- Other unknown causes.
There are things you can do to prevent fever blisters and things you can do to get rid of them more quickly.
1. Avoid the causes. Exposure to harsh cold or heavy sun for long periods of time can trigger blisters. If you are prone to fever blisters, start wearing sun screen to eliminate the exposure of the inclement weather as the cause of the fever blisters.
2. Eliminate stress - People that have a lot of stress in their life often have fever blisters, so you need to control the stress. Take up meditation and yoga and learn to control your stress.
3. Change your diet - Blisters can also be caused by a diet that is high in saturated fats. Start eating more fiber, fruits and vegetables and stay away from processed foods and you will start noticing that the fever blisters don't break out as often.
4. When you feel a fever blister coming on, put ice on it for as long as you can and do this several times a day. The ice will prevent the cold sore from blistering too badly. You have to do it even before you see the blister, when you first feel it.
5. Use the Aloe Vera plant leaf. If you do get a fever blister take a leaf from an Aloe Vera plant and rub the gel on the blister. It doesn't smell great but it works well. Do this several times a day, especially at night.
6. Apply Tea Tree oil to make it go away. When you apply tea tree oil the blister goes away within a few days.
In the mean time while you are waiting for the fever blister to go away, you need to remember that it is contagious.
