Blog For The Right Purpose

The other day, I had a chat with one of my friends in Yahoo Messenger

. It's been a while since I last chatted him so I was so excited to see him online once again. As our conversation goes on, he told me about his plan of getting married at the end of the year. And with that plan in mind, he needs to raise ample amount of money to shoulder all the expenses. Then our conversation topic went to blogging. I don't know where he got the idea, but for him, he seems that blogging is a good source of income. Knowing that I am a blogger, he asked me a lot of questions mostly on how to create blog and monetize it.

Indeed, you can get money from blogging. But then, money should not be the main reason why you will blog. To tell you the truth, it took me two years, starting from 2005 to actually monetize my blog and started receiving monthly cheque from Google. Blogging is a passion. Unless you have this passion, you will eventually stop blogging along the way. It takes some of your precious time to maintain it. Plus a lot of thinking moments just to get a topic for you to post. And it didn't end after posting your article and make it live online. Success of a blog depends on your readers. What's the point of publishing an article that nobody is reading? I can publish a thousand articles but if no one knows about it or no one is interested, then it's useless. Just another online junk you added in cyberspace.

Blogging should be done with passion and dedication. When you blog, blog for other people not for yourself. Think of your readers and not for yourself. Give them what they want and share it using your blogging expertise. Put your blog a value that online readers will keep on following it. Without this value, your blog won't survive long. When the time came that you already have constant visitors and blog followers, then that's the time you can think of monetizing it.

I knew a lot of bloggers out there, and most of them are struggling. Struggling with what topic to post, visitor traffic and looking for ways how to monetize it. Just a piece of advice, blog with passion. Put value to yourself by helping other people. Once you have done that, people will follow your blog and respect you as a blogger.
