Blog Training Essentials - The First Steps
Blogging is one of the most effective ways to start an online business
. But while many people dream and attempt to build their blogging business, relatively few succeed. Why?
Few people invest in blog training. Most just jump in head first with little thought about their basic goals and objectives for starting in the first place.
Blog training sounds a bit boring and, to some extent, unnecessary. But, in a business sense, blog training should be regarded as the first stage of creating a successful online business.
So what is blog training?
Step 1
Define why you would set up a blog in the first place. What is your purpose and what are your goals? Write these down first. You do need to have a plan otherwise you could drift from one internet marketing product to the next without clear direction for your online business.
Step 2
What features in your blog will help you achieve your goals? DO you need to collect subscribers for a newsletter? Do you want to use affiliate products to earn an income, or Adsense or Amazon/eBay stores? All these decisions are critical before you even contemplate putting your blog together.
Step 3
Having defined your purpose and having some idea of the features you will need, you will need to look at your style or brand. This part of your blog training is important but not critical. You are able to change and adapt your blog in the future. Keep in mind that a change in theme will temporarily effect your search engine rankings. But it is more important to get this right so any temporary lass of ranking will be more than compensated for later on.
Step 4
Learn how to do your blog setup right before you actually start to do it. Seems common sense but the ease of blog setup these days promotes lazy blog setup. Consider the essential plugins if you are using WordPress. You will need plugins such as Google Site-Maps, social bookmarking capability, spam blockers and backup utilities and so on. Install these plugins when you do your blog setup rather than wait until you are up and running.
Step 5
Always consider your reader. Build in reader interactivity through comments, survey and polls. These are great ways to get your reader engaged and coming back for more over time. It will also help you formulate ideas as to the kinds of products and services you can provide for your customers. This is better that relying on what you think they might want or what appears to be useful for you. Always encourage feedback.
Blog training is an absolute 'must have' for anyone contemplating blogging as an online business.
