The first thing you need to consider is a topic. Find one that can give you plenty to talk about and one that will constantly give you blog posts. Current events, fashion or celebrities are areas that do provide this content, but many people already do this. Once you find a topic you want to write about, narrow it down to a part of that topic that no one else is writing about, and then write it yourself. In this way, you can have an interesting, and fresh, take on that topic people will enjoy reading on your blog.

Next you need to come up with a fairly catchy name for your blog. You want it to be memorable, but not stupid. Since this is how most people will remember you, effectively becoming a brand name for you, you want to have the best name you can come up with.

Create a schedule of when to post and follow it. This is important because you need to allow the readers to get used to new content being on the blog, and the more you do, the more they visit your site.

Numbers are important. Not only from gaining a readership, but from knowing someone is reading what you write. You can gain a readership by posting new and interesting posts, but also joining networks. Social media can be a good tool to get new readers and there are places that are just for bloggers to promote their site. Promotion of your blog can increase the numbers, and being part of these networks gets your blog out to potential readers.

When you get readers, encourage them to comment, and comment back on the ones that do. Some of the most successful blogs have an active comment section, and most of these have the author responding to them. The more you make it feel like a friend's house, the more it is a place readers will want to come.

It is all really simple. Make a blog people like, want to read, and will come to. While it sounds simple, it also takes a lot of dedication and work to establish it and gain the readership, but time and work will make it possible.
