When you set up your Wordpress blog for the first time

, it always helps to have it set up in the right way so you can get the most benefit from it as part of your online marketing strategy.Here are some simple tweaks that you need to make to your blog before you do anything else. This will save you time by just showing you the changes you need to make so you don't have to go through all the options yourself.We'll work from the options from the top left hand side to the bottom in the Wordpress admin area.Click on "links" in the links section. Here you will see a bunch of useless links, you can delete all of these.Then go to the "settings" section. This is where most of the changes need to be made.Click on "general settings". Under "reading settings" you can allow your blog to show your most recent posts or a static page for example an About page if your prefer. The rest of the settings here are self explanatory.Under "discussion settings" the default options are ok but you can change these to your own preferences if you need to.Under "privacy settings" make sure the option "I would like my site to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Bing, Technorati) and archivers" this is VERY important. You want your blog to appear in the search engine results.Under "permalinks" (and this again, is a very important change), check custom structure and enter /%postname%/. This means that the urls of your post will show the actual title of your post rather than just some random generated number. The old setting doesn't give you any of the benefits you need for your posts to show up right in the search engines.Summing up I hope you found this article useful.
