Blonde Or White Hair: Is Laser Effective For Permanent Hair Removal?
Unwanted body hair can be a continuous cause of anxiety
. Millions of people hide it, pluck it, shave it, wax it or use depilatory creams and lotions, all in an attempt to get rid of unsightly body hair.
The antidote to ceasing reliance on these temporary and time-consuming methods is laser or electrolysis treatments, however not every person is an ideal candidate for laser.
Laser hair removal systems are designed to act on the melanin pigment in hair. As there is very little pigment in light-coloured hair, people with light blonde or white hair will not likely benefit from laser treatments. The amount of pigment in the hair will determine if lasers can be used effectively.
With the proper equipment, laser treatments will work well for darker blonde hair, however its likely that more treatments will be necessary than would be required for a person with brunette hair. Our experienced operators will manipulate the energy level and pulse duration specifically to suit the needs of each client, ensuring the best results in the least number of treatments.
On average, a reasonable expectation for laser hair removal on dark blonde hair would be 8-14 treatments.
For individuals with lighter blonde hair it will be necessary to do a test patch to determine if laser equipment will be at all effective for hair removal. If laser proves to have just a moderate degree of effectiveness, that will mean that some but not all of the hair follicles will be destroyed by the laser. The process then will be to do a series of treatments with laser, and then use electrolysis to take care of hair growth that the laser is unable to affect.
Individuals with very light blonde or white hair will ONLY be able to consider electrolysis for permanent hair removal as there is virtually no pigment in the hair to work with. Electrolysis is effective, but the process takes longer because hair follicles are treated one at a time, as opposed to a laser which can treat an area the size of a quarter at one time.
In addition to working with the right equipment and designing a program specifically to suit the needs of each client, another key step that Champion Laser employs to ensure that our clients are comfortable is to make sure the skin is cooled effectively. We use a cryogenic spray system as well as a medical Zimmer that blows cold air on the skin being treated for optimal patient comfort. This contributes to quick recovery and reduced redness immediately following treatment.
