Bobby Deol - Bollywood Actor

Born on 27th January 1967 in Mumbai, bobby or vijay singh deol is the second son of Bollywood Superstar Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur

. As born in a family established in bollywood, Bobby joined films in 1995, at the age of 28.

Though being a star son proved helpful for his start of career, Bobby later struggled a lot to maintain his position as a commercial cinema actor. His first on screen appearance was for Dharam Veer (1977) as a child artist in a role of young Dharam.

Bobby first on screen appearance as an adult was for the film Barsaat (1995) opposite Twinkle Khanna. The film was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and earned Bobby a Filmfare Best Debut Award. After Barsaat (1995), Bobby was paired with Manisha Koirala and Kajol by director Rajiv Rai for the film Gupt: The Hiddent Turth (1997).

The movie which was a suspense thriller was one of the top earners that year. Bobby played the character of Sahel Sinhala, who is torn between two women he loves. In the same year, Bobby starred in Rahul Rawail Aur Pyar Ho Gaya (1997), opposite debutant Aishwarya Rai.


It was an out and out romantic movie and performed well at the Box Office. The period from 1998 to 2000 proved to be very lucky for bobby. Some of his hit films are from this period. In 1998, bobby acted in two films, kareeb (1998) opposite neha and soldier (1998) opposite preity zinta.

While kareeb (1998) was a romantic movie, soldier (1998) on the other hand was a suspense thriller. Both the films did good business at box office. Dillagi (1999) was bobby brother sunny directorial debut. Bobby starred in this movie beside sunny and urmila matondkar.

The film was not that successful at the box office. In 2000, bobby acted in three movies, these movies include raj kanwar badal (2000), Guddu Dhanoa Bicchhoo (2000) and Hum Toh Mohabat Karega (2000). Except for hum toh mohabbat karega (2000) which was a rom com, the other movies were of suspense genre.

From here onwards, bobby deol mostly acted in action and romantic films. Aashiq (2001) was his second romantic film opposite karishma kapoor. Ajnabee (2001) was a multi starrer film in which bobby starred along with akshay kumar, kareena kapoor and bipasha basu.

Ajnabee (2001) proved to be a hit, and bobby was in the limelight for quite some time. In naresh malhotra kranti (2002), bobby played the role of acp abhay pratap singh, an honest and diligent police officer.

His next film, 23rd march 1931: shaheed (2002), was based on the life account of indian freedom fighters bhagat singh, rajguru and sukhdev. Bobby essayed the role of bhagat singh, along with his brother sunny deol, who played chandrashekhar azad.

This was bobby first film of historic genre. Humraaz (2002) directed by abbas mustan, was a thriller, in which bobby starred along with ameesha patel. The movie did well at the box office and bobby received a nomination for filmfare best actor award. Chor machaye shor (2002) was bobby last film for 2002.

After a year gap, Bobby acted in Guddu Dhanoa Kismat (2004) Opposite Priyanka Chopra. The film was an action packed thriller and earned moderately. Bardaasht (2004) was directed by e. Niwas, in which bobby acted along with rahul dev and lara dutta. Bobby performance in the film was critically acclaimed.

His Last Film For The Year 2004 Was Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo (2004), directed by anil sharma. The film was based on army life and starred amitabh bachchan, akshay kumar along with bobby. 2005 Proved To Be A Power Packed Year For Bobby, As The Films That He Starred In Did Well At The Box Office.

Deviating A Bit From His Usual Hardcore Action Films, Bobby Also Starred In Romantic Films. Jurm (2005) which was his first film for the year was a thriller, directed by vikram bhatt. Bobby next film, tango charlie (2005), was based on hardships faced by the Border Safety Patrol (BSF) jawan in north east india and was based on a true story. Bobby played the character of trooper tarun chauhan, codenamed tango charlie opposite Ajay devgn.

Barsaat (2005) was a romantic film in which bobby played a character of an ambitious car designer, torn between two women he loves, played by bipasha basu and priyanka chopra. Dosti: friends forever (2005), was directed by suneel darshan.

The film was a story of two friends, who get married to each other spouses due to some misunderstandings. This leads to the emotional drama, which is the main flavor of the film. Bobby starred in this film along with kareena kapoor, lara dutta and akshay kumar. The film failed to perform in india, but was the highest grosser film of 2005 in uk.

Humko tumse pyar hai (2006) was bobby only release in 2006. The film went bust at the box office. Bobby acted in 5 films in 2007, some of which were hits. Shakalaka boom boom (2007) featured him as a.j., who is a famous singer/composer in new york. The movie was a complete disaster at the box office. Yash raj film Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007) saved bobby falling popularity in bollywood.

Even though the film performed averagely overseas, it was successful in india. Bobby next film apne (2007) was a home production of deol family, starring dharmendra, sunny, bobby, shilpa shetty and katrina kaif. The film was also dubbed in punjabi and got a very good response in india, especially in the punjab region.

Bobby also starred in naqaab (2007), which was a suspense thriller directed by abbas mustan. The film did poorly at the box office. Bobby last film for 2007 was nanhe jaisalmer (2007).

The film was a portrayal of friendship between a tourist guide boy in rajasthan and a famous movie star, played by bobby. The film was well received by the audience, but failed miserably in the long run. In 2008, bobby acted in three films, chamku (2008), heroes (2008) and dostana (2008). Chamku (2008) was directed by kabeer kaushik and produced by bobby family production vijayta films.

The film was a crime drama, and performed averagely at the box office. Bobby next film, heroes (2008), was a multi starrer. It featured sunny deol, salman khan, mithun chakraborty, dino morea, sohail khan and preity zinta, along with bobby.

Heroes (2008) was critically acclaimed for its story and performed average at the box office. Dostana (2008) was a strong film for bobby acting portfolio. He did complete justice to his character of a fashion magazine editor, abhimanyu singh.

He was successful in making an impression among the other powerful actors in the film, john abraham, abhishek bachchan and priyanka chopra. The movie was a hit, and helped bobby to regain his standing in bollywood as an actor.

Ek: the power of one (2009) and vaada raha (2009) were bobby only films for the year 2009. Ek: the power of one (2009) was an action film, starring nana patekar and south indian actress shriya saran. Bobby played the role of an assassination who is falsely accused for killing a politician.

He lands up in punjab, in a sikh family, while on the run, and the experience changes him completely. The film performed averagely at the box office. Vaada raha (2009) was considered as a b grade film by the audience, and subsequently crashed at box office.

Recently, bobby was seen acting in rajeev virani horror flick, help (2010), opposite mugdha godse. The film received mixed reviews from critics, but was a complete disaster at box office. Bobby upcoming films include yamla pagla deewana (2010), players by abbas mustan and thank you (2011).


Yamla pagla deewana (2010) is a comedy film directed by samir karnik, produced by dharmendra. Thank you (2011) is a romantic comedy film directed by anees bazmee. Players is a remake of hollywood movie italian job. Bobby father dharmendra is a bollywood superstar turned producer.

Bollywood actor sunny deol (born 1956) is his elder brother. He also has two sisters, vijeyta and ajita. The famous bollywood actress Hema Malini is bobby step mother, dhamendra second wife. Bobby has two half sisters, esha deol and ahana deol. Bollywood actor Abhay Deol is bobby cousin.

Bobby is married to Tanya Ahuja, and has two sons Aryaman (born 2001) and Dharam (named after Dharmendra, born 2004).
