What do you think about when you hear the words "body building"

? Do you think about women and men with comical sized muscles walking around and posing for photos? Do you think of a man who can lift hundreds of pounds without help? Believe it or not there is more to body building than simply turning yourself into a crazy sized muscle clad person. Body building is a good way to build strength and tone in your muscles and to get into better shape.

Anybody can complete a body building routine. Here are some tips and tricks you can use to help get you started.

Proper breathing is important. Good breathing is key when you do a body building workout. It is not a good idea to hold your breath. Oxygen is important for keeping muscles healthy so you want to take in as much as you can. Use your diaphragm to help you breathe correctly instead of your lungs. When you breathe through your lungs your chest expands quite a bit which makes it difficult to properly work the muscles in your chest. If you breathe from the diaphragm you are still taking in all the oxygen you need but it doesn't cause your chest to expand.

You will have days when your body works very well and days when it does not work well at all. Be prepared for this. The simple fact is that a varied workout will make sure that you have easy days that will allow your body to rest and to heal from some of the harder days that you take on. Don't freak out if sometimes your body doesn't perform as well as you like. Let your body rest (it needs it!) and then try again tomorrow. If you get too stressed out you could risk injury or make your situation even worse.


Some of the major body building individual exercises include military presses, push ups, pull ups, dead lifts, curls, lunges, leg curls, squats, side laterals, barbell curls, hanging leg raises and all of the other types of exercise that most consider "normal" like running, biking and swimming. Make sure you have each of these exercises mastered and do not try to do them alone. When you do your lifting exercises always ask someone to spot you--this is especially important when you work your way up through the different weight classes. Lifting without having someone to spot you is dangerous because you won't have anybody to help you if the lift you are doing becomes to hard for you to do by yourself.

Body building can be a very worthwhile activity. It helps you to get healthy. It keeps your body in shape. It increases your stamina and endurance.

As you work to improve your strength and to build your muscles it is important that you take steps to stay healthy and to protect your muscles from being torn down too much. You will see a high level of success with your body building when you take steps to protect your health.
