Body Piercing For Minors - The Ethical Aspect

When it comes to wear fashion in way of displaying body piercing jewelry or inking tattoos the craze is often seen mostly in the minors

. Yes here I am talking about are the ones below 18.Greatlyinfluenced by ether a tinsel town actor or the popular WWE champion or even their elder brothers and sisters they think its the step to attain maturity in life. They think that they would be taken as grown up doing that.

There is stringent code of ethics under legal regulations in some countries that prohibits the act of piercing or tattoo making for the minors. Here comes the point of discussion.

I read a real life story over internet where a boy aged 10 lost requested his mother to have a tattoo in memory of his deceased brothers whom he lost in a tragic accident. Seeing through the affection of his boy the grieving mother also consented. But when the boy was seen publically with the tattoo the authorities took him under legal regulations and arrested her mother under child cruelty laws. The country also had certain rules for prohibition of piercing and tattoo making under age 18.

But here the parent itself consented. So does that mean that parents consent is of no legal relevance when it comes to Tattooing or piercing? And in the same country parents have the legal right to consent the circumcision of the new born who does not even know what is happening to him?

Answering such question would definitely make a debate. But two things go logically correct here when the topic is for requests by minors for body piercing:

* People have a right to make decisions regarding making changes in their body. Unless a person is incapable of making such decision or wherever the medical intervention is necessary or decision making person is the legal caretaker of person.

* A pre verbal minor asking to go under needle should never be allowed. But if minor insist having a one then taking everything in consideration parents should be given right to make the best judgment. If a little girl wants to have ear piercing and parents give consent there is nothing ethically wrong but if the girl could barely utter her language then its better to hold the act.

* Children aged below 18 but above 10 whom we call minors do have their choices so its better we start treating them with respect and not whip them for every other thing. Guide them where it is best for them and stop them from doing themselves any harm. Give them a chance to go through body jewelry online and make their choice of designs available.
