Body Side Molding Keeps Your Car Looking Cool
My dad was a car guy
My dad was a car guy. When I was a child, I would often watch him working on an old car or modifying a new one. My favorite ones were the hot rods, with their classic forms and even classier modifications. Even the standard cars that he was tuning up or working on for his friends seemed a little better while he was working on them.
Because of that background, I think I might be a little more sensitive to dings and minor imperfections. The better the shine, the easier it is to see the aftermath of a shopping cart collision and the tell-tale dings of doors meeting with doors in crowded parking lots.
Not too long ago, most cars came standard with some sort of body molding attached to the doors. It was usually a dark color and kind of rubbery. Body molding takes most of the hits that come from everyday use, but to a car guy, it kind of looks like training wheels. Having a big black stripe on your car, unless it's a racing stripe, just isn't cool.
From experience, I honestly don't believe car dealers care if your car gets dinged once it is off the lot, and it is easier to sell a car that looks cool than it is to sell one that looks like it has training wheels. I also don't think many car buyers are thinking about the dangers of the shopping center parking lot when they are standing with that dealer, drooling over that car. There is, however, a win-win solution.
There is no law that says body molding needs to be a black rubber strip. Painted body side molding can be designed and fitted to match the color and style of the car and even customized to enhance the style of the car, adding both class and functionality.
Painted body side molding can be acquired for most makes and models that have come out over the past ten years. If you're a car guy, you might want to try and apply it yourself, but I recommend having it done professionally, especially if the car belongs to your wife. There is no need to create one problem while trying to solve another.
So be one step ahead when that next parking lot mishap comes your way. If your car is without standard molding protection, take the time to invest in some painted body side molding. It will immediately improve the appearance of your car and protect it from those little dings, dents, and scratches that happen while you are at the store.
