Bodybuilding Supplements - Necessary Or Hype?

With each passing year bodybuilding supplements seem to become more and more popular

, with new ones popping up every week. But do you really need them to get the muscle gain you hope to achieve?

Before we explore what to look for in bodybuilding supplements, let me start by saying this: when starting a muscle-building program remember that good nutrition should be the first thing you choose to work on. Taking handfuls of supplements and drinking shake after shake won't do a thing if you are eating processed garbage. Capiche?

So, if you can understand and believe that bodybuilding supplements should be used in addition to eating healthy WHOLE foods, then you should be on your way to getting the ripped physique you're after.

Now in order to decide which supplements you may want to add to your diet you need to think about what your muscle gain goals are. Just because all the guys at the gym are taking one thing does NOT mean it is the be-all and end-all of bodybuilding supplements and it doesn't mean that you need to take it. Same goes for all the glossy ads you see in bodybuilding magazines.

Do some research once you have decided how cut or ripped you want to get and then and only then decided which supplement to incorporate.

Allow me to sound like your mother for a minute and give you a final side note: no supplement in the world will get you the results you desire then dedication and a lot of hard work.

Okay, now onto what the body actually needs to build muscle - Amino Acids. Ever heard of them? They are real real important if you want any amount of muscle gain. Amino acids are found in some of the foods you eat, but generally speaking, if you want muscle gain, you will have to up your Amino Acid intake.

Whey protein is an excellent source for Amino Acids. You can buy it in powder form and they are making powders now that don't taste awful, so making a shake once or twice a day should give you the Amino Acids your body needs.

You've no doubt heard of Creatine. Creatine is what's called a nitrogenous organic acid. It helps to supply energy to muscles so you can have a better workout and push your self to lift a little more and a little more.

There are things called prohormones and testosterone boosters that I'm on the fence about. They're legal and "natural", but for my taste they come with too many side effects. You either want to be a healthy muscle head, or not, and I can't condone the methods which are questionable to a person's health.

Here's the bottom line - If you want to change you body and gain lean, hard muscle then you need to use your head first. Eat right, drink plenty of water, remember to rest you body in between workouts, and be sensible when it comes to incorporating the good kind of bodybuilding supplements into your diet.
