Boman Irani is a Bollywood actor. He shot to fame with the highly acclaimed film Munnabhai mbbs (2003). He known for his versatility through a wide range of supporting roles in several notable films like main hoon na (2004), veer zaara (2004), page 3 (2005), waqt race against time (2005), being cyrus (2006), lage raho munnabhai (2006), khosla ka ghosla (2006), don the chase begins again (2006), dostana (2008) and 3 idiots (2009).
Boman Irani was born on 1st October 1962 into a Parsi family in Mumbai. He used to reside in Nagpada Sanvi near Mumbai Central. He graduated from Mithibai College in Mumbai and later did a Polytechnic Diploma course.
After working as a room service staff at Taj Mahal Palace, Boman, later, joined his mother at their ancestral bakery shop in South Mumbai. Thereafter, he opened an Uncle Chips franchise at Dadar, Mumbai. But due to unprofitable business, Boman shut the franchise around the year 1986.
In the year 1987, Boman Irani ventured into what he still believes is his biggest passion photography, part from acting, of course. From the Miss India to top models, from advertising campaigns to portfolios, Boman was better off as a professional photographer.
It was only by virtue of being a photographer that Boman Irani met the world of theatre. 2009 saw Boman Irani appearing in as many as seven films of which he did cameos in films Luck by chance (2009) and Kambakkht ishq (2009). Perfect mismatch (2009) and Fruit & nut (2009) went unnoticed.
Boman starred in Little zizou (2009) and 99 (2009), which were small-budgeted films but highly appreciated. The films failed commercially, but gained a cult status.
But it was with Rajkumar Hirani 3 idiots (2009) Boman Irani touched greater heights. Starring Bollywood megastar Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan and Kareena Kapoor, Boman played a strict and stubborn college principal. The class act won him his first Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Role.
He had been nominated thrice before, first been for the Best Comedian for his role in MUNNABHAI MBBS (2003). 3 IDIOTS (2009) became one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films ever in Bollywood. Boman was altogether on a new level after this film.
Boman Irani first release in 2010 was Shyam Benegal political satire, WELL DONE ABBA (2010), where he played the central character of Armaan Ali, a Muslim driver in Mumbai who takes a month leave from his employer in order to hunt for a groom for his daughter (Minissha Lamba).
When Armaan takes too long for it, his employer decides to sack him. The film wasnt meant for the masses, but it received good critical reception and went on to win the National Film Award for Best Film on social Issues.
In Hum tum aur ghost (2010), starring Arshad Warsi and Dia Mirza, Boman plays a ghost whom only Arshad Warsi could come across. This fantasy film failed miserably at the Box-Office.
HOUSEFULL (2010) was the latest film to star Boman Irani. Directed by Sajid Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, this slapstick comedy had Boman playing the role of a Gujarati father to Lara Dutta character in the film. Boman impressed everyone with his terrific performance.
The film also starred Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone, Jiah Khan, and Arjun Rampal. HOUSEFULL (2010) was super-hit at the Box Office.
Boman Irani next release would be with Farhan Akhtar Don 2, the sequel to Don: The chase begins again (2006), where he would be playing the role of Vardhaan again. Starring alongside Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta and Kunal Kapoor, this film is slated to release in the later half of 2011.
Boman has been signed on for Priyadarshan multi-starrer action film Tez, which would also star Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgn. He would also be dubbing for Nikhil Advani animated flick Delhi safari.
Boman Irani married Zenobia at the age of twenty-three. They have two sons Danesh and Kayur.
